“I would be content being a housewife if I found the kind of man who wouldn’t treat me like one.”
I like this quote. It pretty much sums up how I feel about the subject. I *might* be content being a housewife but I never want to feel “less than.” Now wait a minute, having just said that, I’m not suggesting that being a housewife (or stay-at-home-mom for that matter) isn’t valuable and challenging, it’s just not exactly what I wanted to be when I grew up. Wait, scratch that. I DID want to be that, it’s just that wasn’t the ONLY thing I wanted to be. I had 20 other titles checked off in “My School Days” book my mother used to keep. I still do. However, I guess I WAS able to narrow my selections down to 13 things most recently.
Maybe someone should’ve seen that I aspired to be eleventy-billion different things and realized, hmmm, this girl needs some direction and guidance in her life. Perhaps I bought into the idea of “You can be anything you want to be” just a little too much for my own good. (Anything, not Everything!) Maybe then I wouldn’t be 28 years old, still checking multiple boxes when asked what I want to be when I grow up. And maybe I wouldn’t have held enough jobs to complete my list of 13 Job Titles I’ve Held.
Hmmm, would life be any easier if I was content being a housewife?
