Kaizen Chaos

While wandering aimlessly through Borders, I glanced at a table and noticed the book “My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One Night Stands” I couldn’t help it. I totally judged the book by the cover and just HAD to read it. What can I say - I was intrigued. Aren’t you?

My first thoughts were: What? Are you serious? Someone actually wrote a book about their one night romps, a women nonetheless, AND used her real name?!?!?! Sounds like my kinda girl - THIS I’ve gotta see.

After doing a little research and reading some reviews I learned that author Chelsea Handler does stand-up comedy and is a comedienne with her own show. Now the whole risque business makes perfect sense; a conservative, corporate banker type such as moi probably couldn’t pull off this type of book with the same results. (Hmmm, or could I? LOL)

No topic is taboo for Chelsea. Anything from seeing her parents naked (where it all started), drugs, sex (obviously), skidmarks (ew!), gay guys, hooking up with a near-minor on a cruise, to the midget in Mexico and her fascination with big, beautiful black men.  Chelsea bares all. But only sometimes literally–not ALL of her stories end up with a “home run” (in fact, I haven’t counted, but it’s possible she strikes out more often than not?) Regardless, each rendez-vous ended up with a smile or a laugh from this reader.  

I would highly recommend this book if you’re looking for a quick and easy read, provided you’re open-minded and not easily offended. I’m looking forward to getting my hands on her next book “Are You There Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea” which comes out Spring 2008.
