Kaizen Chaos

This year marks the 3^rd year since Aunt Laurie’s death. She and her family decided to spend the Christmas holiday in Florida. She had been having a little bit of heart trouble (Irregular Heartbeat, shortness of breath, even short blackouts) but she was determined not to let this put a dent in her holiday plans. She had gone to her doctor multiple times for tests but they could not find anything “wrong.” She half-joking-half-serious told me she asked the doctor “Am I going to die of a heart attack or what?” Apparently he did not think so and let her go on her way.

A couple days into their trip she went to a shopping mall with her daughter. After a short time shopping, Aunt Laurie turned to her daughter and asked her to slow down for a moment because she wasn’t feeling well and needed to sit. A moment later she fell backwards to the floor and she was gone. She suffered a sudden heart attack and they were not able to bring her back.

What a terrible, terrible holiday. So please, if you have ANY symptoms, ANY doubts, ANY trouble whatsoever, DO NOT hesitate to keep on your doctor to find out what the problem is and FIX IT. I don’t know what they weren’t doing, or how they dismissed her telltale symptoms, but it’s so sad to think that just a little more effort and prodding could’ve saved her life.
