Goodbye Lifesaver House :-(

When I bought my current house in 2006 I had recently gone through some very tough times. I was tired of coming home and being sad and depressed so I decided my new-to-me-but-actually-100-year-old-house needed a little fun, some character, some LIFE. So, I painted my rooms in various lifesaver shades - bright sunny yellow for the dining room, shocking lime green in the living room, and tangerine orange for the den (now the movie room). And for my bedroom, dark gray with a splashes of hot pink. (I never got around to painting the kitchen and upstairs bathroom in a crazy color, which was probably a good thing.)
I couldn’t help but smile when I walked into all the bright colors. Most people didn’t like it, but my friend TG totally got it. When she walked in the first time she said “Wow! I love it! It makes me happy!” Exactly.
Since Mr. Wonderful has been in my life I’m a much happier person and I guess I no longer need the crazy fun house to make me smile; I have him! It’s time for my crazy fun house to become our cozy home. Plus, we want it to appraise as high as possible and sell as quickly as possible when the time comes. Even I believe a neutral color scheme is much more appealing than my crazy colors. So we decided to paint over the bright colors before the house gets appraised on Tuesday. (If you didn’t know, rates have dropped - now is a good time to refinance and save some $$!) Not that paint color is going to affect the appraisal much if anything, but if nothing else it’s motivating us to get it done quickly.
I’ll have to dig out the old photos I took and take some new ones. Our new rooms will be “hot chocolate” brown for the dining room, which does look awesome next to our “vanilla brandy” kitchen and moss green bedroom but makes me hate our pinkish-taupe bathroom. (We’ll be painting the bathroom in hot chocolate brown too.) Then “earthy” (lighter moss) green for the living room and the same “vanilla brandy” as in the kitchen for the TV room.
My first thoughts on this change was “Blah.” But, we’ve got the dining room done and it does look nice. Not fun, like my smiley-face-yellow by any means, but nice. Maybe warmer, more inviting. We’ll see when it’s all done. I’m sure I’ll like it well enough but I am still sad to have to say goodbye to the crazy colors. Oh well. Just wait until we have kids. I’m going all out crazy colors Dr. Seuss Whoville style!!! Yay! ![]()
